Maverik
Dallas Lacrosse Academy Launched
(October 25th, 2008)
We are extremely excited to announce the Maverik
Dallas Lacrosse Academy - a joint venture between Maverik Lacrosse,
a manufacturer of lacrosse equipment and apparel, and accomplished
local coaches John Marano and Alex Poole.
SHAPING YOUTH LACROSSE THROUGH INCREASED COMPETITION
AND COACHING
The mission of Maverik Lacrosse is to provide coaching and
instruction to young men to help them reach their highest individual
potential by the time they reach college. Maverik Lacrosse uses
three primary methods to accomplish this mission:
1) Conduct high-level practice sessions and
instruction
2) Schedule games to test performance against appropriate levels of
competition
3) Provide an opportunity to make travel teams to play against the
nation’s best competition
Maverik Lacrosse is a supplemental program to community and school
programs. Academy students should approach this opportunity with the
understanding that they will not simply play games. The academy is a
place for those who want focus and dedicate their time to improving
their basic fundamentals by following a curriculum necessary to
compete at the next level. The most important attribute we want in
Maverik players is great desire to be the best lacrosse player they
can be. This means they are willing to work hard both in and out of
scheduled practices to get
there. Kids will gain self-confidence as they realize, through hard
work and dedication, that they can achieve their goals. These
lessons will prove beneficial now and throughout life as it helps
boys build character and integrity through their efforts.

TEXAS
TOURNAMENT NAMED DICK'S SPORTING GOODS TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS
QUALIFIER

(August 18, 2008)
NDP Lacrosse announced
today that the inaugural
Lone Star Shoot-Out, to be held in North Dallas, Texas on
Thanksgiving weekend, has been named an official qualifying
tournament of the
Dick's Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions, the high school
club lacrosse national championship. The Lone Star Shoot-Out is the
first qualifier in the Southwest region of the U.S.
"The rapid increase in
participation within the sport of lacrosse in Texas is almost
unfathomable," said Josh Gross, NDP’s public relations manager. "But
the key to the Lone Star Shoot-Out is that the tournament will
feature teams from across the country, not just those from Texas."
The unique tournament
structure, which will feature pool play and a championship format,
matches teams from the eastern half of the country against teams
from the West.
"The most desirable
tournaments in the country, like the Dick's Sporting Goods
Tournament of Champions and now, the Lone Star Shoot-Out, give teams
the opportunity to face competition they haven't played in the
past," said Brian Tatum, NDP's Director of Operations. "That's the
number one request we get as a tournament company from teams that
play in our events. I commend [tournament director] Gary DeSerrano
for his vision and forward thinking in developing Lone Star."
DeSerrano says he's
excited by the NDP selection.
"We are honored to be
chosen as an 'Official Qualifier' for the Dick’s Sporting Goods
Tournament of Champions. This distinction only adds to the great
things the Lone Star Shoot-Out will offer our participating teams
and organizations."
The Texas event also
provides participants with the opportunity to attend the
Dallas Cowboys game on
Thanksgiving Day, as well as the
Dallas Stars game the following night.
There’s one certainty
when it comes to events run by DeSerrano, who is also the president
of the Adams Golf
Pro Tour Series, a national series of tournaments for
professional golfers.
"Just like Texas," said
Gross, "Gary always goes big."
The president of the
newest national championship qualifier can’t wait for Thanksgiving
to turn his dream into a reality.
"We look forward to a
great tournament and hopefully sending a representative high school
select team to this prestigious event that will compete for the
Dick’s Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions title."
